Versilia Seaside

From Montecatini you can shortly and easily reach Versilia seaside by train, by bus or by car.

Versilia is famous for its long sand beaches and it is a climatic paradise both in winter and in summer and its beaches are framed from the marvellous Apuan Alps.

Versilia means sun, sea, little villages up on the Apuan Alps, trekking and alpinism paths, good enogastronomy but above all nightlife with discoteques, nights and restaurants such as Bussola and Capannina.

VIAREGGIO (55 km from Montecatini - 30 minutes by car)

Viareggio is one of the oldest and most famous touristic destination in Italy, thanks to its huge pinewood and sand beach.
What to see: the famous "passeggiata" along the beach with dozens of shops and liberty and deco buildings, the Carnival Cittadel where the artisans make the carts of the Carnival, the shipyard of yachts and luxury boats, the harbour, the pier and the docks with its lively atmosphere.

TORRE DEL LAGO PUCCINI (53 km from Montecatini - 30 minutes by car)

In 1938 Torre del Lago was renamed Torre del Lago Puccini in honour of Giacomo Puccini who lived and wrote many of his operas in Torre del Lago, in his villa overlooking Massaciuccoli lake.
Torre del Lago Puccini is now one of the most important destination for yound people entertainment with many discoteques, bars and restaurants.

What to see: Giacomo Puccini's villa and his grave, Villa Borbone and the park, the Open Theatre on the Massaciuccoli's Lake where every year Festival Pucciniano takes place, the naturalistic parks of Miglairino and San Rossore.

FORTE DEI MARMI (63 km from Montecatini - 35 minutes by car)

The most fashionable and glamorous place of Versilia is Forte dei Marmi where you can have fun to discover VIPs.
Luxury shops and restaurants and the worldwide famous disco La Capannina, at Forte dei Marmi the sea is a secondary thing.
Don't miss the Museo della Satira, the only museum in Italy dedicated to humoristic and satirical drawing.

PIETRASANTA (64 km from Montecatini - 35 minutes by car)

Pietrasanta is one of the most important site sfor marble and bronze works and worlwide famous sculptors such as Igor Mitoraj and Fernando Botoro chose to live there.
During summer, Pietrasanta organizes artistic reveww and open air exhibitions.
What to see: the Cathedral in gothic-romanic style, the romanic church of Sant'Agostino with the baroque tower and the cloistre, the Civic Tower, the Archeological Museum and the Rocca di Sala with an outstanding view on Versilia.
